It's been 2 years since the world lost a smart, promising young man who believed in being a role model to others. Nicolas Belcher, a former North High School student, was senselessly killed in a tragic act of gun violence on March 6, 2018 at just 20 years old. I have known Nicolas's dad for nearly 2 decades and my heart goes out to him and all of Nicolas's family and friends.

For his birthday this year, Nicolas's dad is asking for donations to the Nicolas C. Belcher Scholarship Fund - a fund set up as a way to carry on Nicolas's legacy and to help ensure that other bright and caring students devoted to the service of others get the opportunity to go on to college while honoring the life of Nicolas Belcher. His dad, Nick is asking for the support of the community to raise the money to fund the annual scholarship to be awarded to a graduate of Evansville's North High School. He said in his online appeal for donations,

Losing my son so tragically is something I will never get over. With every thought of Nicolas, my emotions take many forms from heartache, self-pity, to anger.
However; I cannot allow this darkness be how my wonderful son is remembered. I want to try and change my focus to something positive. I want to do something that would have made Nicolas proud.

If you would like to donate to the Nicolas C. Belcher Hero Scholarship, please visit the EVSC Foundation Website and be sure that you note "Nicolas C. Belcher Hero Scholarship" in the comments section at the bottom of the form before you press the submit button. 100% of the money donated to the scholarship will go toward helping other deserving students to attend college.
