EVPL School Supply Drive Supports Local Teachers

Every school year, teachers spend their own money to make sure students have the supplies they need to learn.

It's something many educators come to expect, but it doesn't have to be the only way.

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is once again asking the community to help support local teachers through its annual Seasons of Sharing school supply drive benefiting the Teacher Locker.

Last summer alone, EVPL patrons donated enough supplies to fill several vans.

What Is The Teacher Locker?

The Teacher Locker provides free classroom supplies to Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation teachers serving students in Pre-K through 12th grade.

Instead of paying out of pocket for essentials like notebooks, pencils, markers, and glue, teachers can visit the Teacher Locker and pick up supplies at no cost.

The goal is simple: help teachers spend less of their own money while making sure students have the tools they need to succeed.

How You Can Help

Donations will be accepted at all eight EVPL locations now through Thursday, July 31.

The most requested items include:

Chart and graph paper
Spiral notebooks
Composition books
Filler paper
Astrobrights paper
Post-it Notes
Glue sticks and bottled glue
Highlighters
Markers
EXPO dry-erase markers
Crayons
#2 pencils and mechanical pencils
Pocket folders
Boxes of tissues

Even picking up one or two extra items during your next shopping trip can help make a difference for a local classroom.

A Community Effort

According to EVPL, library patrons have donated several vanloads of school supplies over the past four summers, helping stock the Teacher Locker with thousands of classroom essentials.

EVPL staff members organize the drive, but its success depends on the generosity of the community.
