Kat Von D’s Black Tulip Field Opens In Indiana
A small Indiana town is about to become a must-see destination again, thanks to a field of rare black tulips that only bloom for a short time each year.
Kat Von D has announced that her now-famous black tulip field in Vevay is already beginning to bloom, with peak viewing expected very soon.
When The Black Tulips Will Be In Bloom
According to Kat Von D, the roughly 15,000 black tulips are expected to be in full bloom by this weekend.
However, rain is expected through Sunday, which could impact early visits.
Right now, the best window to see the tulips is expected to be April 6 through April 12.
Since tulips typically only bloom for about two weeks, that gives visitors a pretty limited window to catch the display at its peak.
What Visitors Need To Know Before Going
The tulip field is located just outside the gate of Kat Von D’s home, and while visitors are welcome, she made it clear there are a few important boundaries.
- Do not go through the gate or approach the house
- Do not walk up to windows or private areas
- Respect the property and privacy of the family
She shared that there have already been incidents of people crossing onto private property, which she says is stressful and unsafe.
Please Do Not Pick The Tulips
Another big request is simple: leave the flowers where they are.
Kat Von D says the field is carefully maintained and already faces challenges from wildlife like deer, so picking tulips takes away from the experience for everyone else.
The goal is to keep the field intact so the entire community and visitors can enjoy it.
Photos Are Welcome And Encouraged
If you’re hoping to take photos, you’re in luck.
Visitors are welcome to take pictures, including:
- Graduation photos
- Maternity shoots
- Professional photography sessions
Kat Von D says she loves seeing people create memories and art in the space, as long as everyone respects the rules, and encourages you to tag Hello Vevay in your photos.
A Unique Experience In A Small Indiana Town
With fewer than 2,000 residents, Vevay might not be on your usual road trip list, but it should be! It's been named one of the Best Small Towns in the Midwest by USA Today.
For a short time each spring, this small southern Indiana town becomes home to one of the most unique floral displays in the region.
