It goes without saying that Alice Cooper is an iconic and prolific musician and there is no doubt that he has earned his title of "Godfather of Shock Rock," but it turns out, he is just a humble dude from Detroit.

Kicking Off the Tour

I had the pleasure of talking with Alice Cooper this morning ahead of his show in Cincinnati, Ohio tonight (Jan. 28). He just wrapped a fall tour at the end of last year that included 25 shows along the east coast and tonight's show in Cincinnati will kick off the second leg of that tour.

It is that second leg that will be bringing the Shock Rock Legend to Evansville on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in support of his album Detroit Stories which made its debut in February of last year.

Alice Cooper Has Been Working on a Number of Projects

Not only did the pandemic have Alice working on that album, but it allowed him time to focus on other projects too like narrating a horror story on a new spoken album released just yesterday titled, Tomes of Madness. He told me,

There's so many projects that we did during the lockdown thing. I did a spoken word album. I did a couple of things for video games...

...and I made an album during that time, the Detroit album, you know the Detroit Stories album, and started working on two more albums. So I really did stay pretty busy during the lockdown.

He Compares Nita Straus to Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen

Alice Cooper revealed he had three studios built in his home to accommodate all of his projects during the pandemic. We also talked about the band he tours with and their level of musicianship. He describes guitarist "Hurricane" Nita Strauss as a "phenomenon" and even goes so far as to compare Nita Strauss to Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen.

Hurricane Nita Strauss, she's our, you know, she's our shredder. Ryan Roxie who is like one of the greatest guitar players around, and Tommy Henriksen... [Nita Strauss] plays like Steve Vai or Eddie Van Halen, you know? She won Guitarist of the Decade in Guitar Magazine and our drummer won Best Drummer in Rock two years ago.

He Puts His Pants on Two Legs at a Time

One of the things I love most about Alice Cooper is how humble and down-to-earth he is. We talked too about how he encourages the band to bring that real rockstar energy to the stage but to leave it behind and be humble when they step out of the stage lights and back out into the public. When I made reference to him putting his pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us, he jokingly exclaimed,

I put mine on two legs at a time! It's very interesting... I jump into them somehow!

We also talk about sobriety, on-stage theatrics versus the quality of the music, and more. Listen to the full interview below and get your tickets now to see Alice Cooper live Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Old National Events Plaza's Aiken Theatre in downtown Evansville.
