There’s no one measure of Majel Barrett’s contribution to Star Trek, whether Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi or the omnipresence of computer voices in later seasons, but Star Trek: Discovery may pay more tribute to Barrett than its “Number One” lead. According to reports, Barrett’s digitized voice may also feature into the new series as well.

CBS’ cord-cutting All-Access service was bound to bulk up by the exclusive addition of Star Trek: Discovery, but fans rightly balked at notions that the service would still feature ads atop its monthly $5.99 pricetag. Now, CBS has confirmed an ad-free model, but it’s predictably going to cost you.

Shortly after Comic-Con 2016 gave us our first look at the title ship of Star Trek: Discovery, creator Bryan Fuller pointed out the vessel’s preliminary design, tacitly acknowledging its Ralph McQuarrie influence as well. Now, Fuller offers a few updates on the Discovery’s look, including redesigned nacelles and more.

It’s been some time since William Shatner took part in any Star Trek revival, and with the movie franchise folding in on its own mythology, it might make sense of CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery to return the most famous Enterprise captain. Shatner is open to an appearance on the new series, but only “If I were useful.”

It is interesting that, given a reboot could theoretically go off in any direction it chooses, that the relaunched Star Trek has begun to repeat events from the first Star Trek movie series. Star Trek Into Darkness was essentially a revisitation of The Wrath of Khan; the movie not only reintroduced the title character, it also flip-flopped the famous end of Wrath of Khan where Spock dies saving the Enterprise. (This time around it was Captain Kirk who made the ultimate sacrifice ... for about 8 minutes, and then he got better.) Certainly the circumstances of the film are very different, but Star Trek Beyond shares one crucial ingredient with Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, namely the destruction of the Starship Enterprise, and the shipwrecking of its crew on a distant alien planet.

Just a few months ago, a Star Trek fan film made headlines in a way no one wants their fan film to make headlines: As the target of a lawsuit. Paramount sued the producers of Prelude to Axanar, a Trek fan movie that had raised over $500,000 on Indiegogo, claiming it was infringing on their many of their copyrights. They were almost certainly correct, but the story got a lot of attention, as stories about big conglomerates suing the pants off poor individuals often do.

The late, great Leonard Nimoy, who died earlier today at the age of 83, will always be Mr. Spock, second-in-command of the USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk. For a long time, Nimoy was not okay with this. And then, over the years, he embraced the character that defined his career and inspired an entire generation of fans (many of whom became scientists, engineers, and astronauts). But Nimoy didn't just sit back and rest on his Vulcan laurels. When he wasn't wearing those pointy ears, Nimoy was acting, directing, writing, singing, and lending his likeness and distinctive voice to commercials and TV specials. He was a real Hollywood renaissance man, dabbling in high art, low art, and everything in-between.

Simon Pegg has not taken kindly to the news that 'Star Trek Into Darkness' is evidently the most hated movie of the 'Star Trek' franchise. In fact, his reaction to the film's haters is pretty simple: F--k You!
