Vanderburgh County residents have the opportunity this weekend to dispose of some of the things laying around the house that your just unsure what to do with. The Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District will host the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program - also known as "Tox Away" Day. The day offers residents an opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household chemicals. The disposal event will take place at the Evansville Civic Center this Saturday, September 14th from 9am - 1pm. If you're wondering what you can and cannot dispose of a the event, Evansvillegov.org has provided a list.

The following waste items will be accepted at the event:

  • Motor Oil & Filters
  • Oil Based Paint
  • Automotive Batteries & Fluids
  • Solvents & Thinners
  • Gasoline
  • Antifreeze
  • Household Batteries
  • Pesticides & Herbicides
  • Thermometers/Mercury
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Household Cleaners
  • Glues & Adhesives
  • Photographic Chemicals
  • Pool Chemicals                   
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Pharmaceuticals

and these items are not allowed:

  • Commercial Waste 
  • Infectious Waste
  • Industrial Waste
  • Radioactive Waste
  • Explosives/Ammunition
  • Appliances
  • Pressurized Containers
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Gas Cylinders
  • Appliances
  • Electronics
  • Tires
  • Latex Paint(can be thrown away in regular trash when it is hard - air dry or add kitty litter or sawdust to solidify)

As a reminder, the Tox Away Day is open to households only. Businesses are not allowed to make use of this event.
