If you're not a huge fan of the the pressure and commercialization of the holidays, then today is truly the the holiday for you. Or as Frank Costanza would say 'A Festivus for the rest of us!'.

December 23rd is recognized as Festivus by Frank, during an episode of Seinfeld. Since then the holiday has taken on a life of its own.

According to Wikipedia, Festivus was created by Seinfeld writer Dan O'Keefe. He said he father celebrated the holiday any time there was tension in the family. He added the Festivus pole (a plain aluminum pole with no decoration) when writing the episode.

Festivus poles have found their way in to many government buildings by people who want the holiday recognized. One prisoner even petitioned his jail because he wanted kosher meals for his Festivus 'faith'.
