In our previous installment, I was talking with Dave and Brock from the Meth Suppression Unit of the Evansville Police Department. Amazing enough, shortly after they left my office they went on surveillance at a local pharmacy, looking for “smurfers’, the people who go a buy pseudoephedrine products for the meth cooker in exchange for drugs or cash. Dave and Brock scored big too. They popped three ‘smurfers’. The suspects were arrested after a drug store employee says they were taking turns buying Sudafed.

Evansville police say after receiving a tip about suspicious activity, they approached a car that reeked of alcohol.

Inside the car, police say they found a white powdery substance which appeared to be meth.

Police, say one of the suspects, 31-year-old Brian Harrison, had an outstanding felony warrant and was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Mathis Harmon was also arrested after police say he had two syringes on person without a medical reason.

Once they arrived at jail, deputies searched the third suspect, 26-year-old Tela Martin.

Officers said in the report that Martin had attempted to hide some meth in a baggie between her butt checks. Nice! All three ‘smurfers’ are now staying at the gray bar inn.

Back to what Dave and Brock were saying would really turn things around in the fight against meth here in town is to write your local state representative and tell them you want products containing pseudoephedrine to be a controlled substance and available by prescription only. Vanderburgh County's delegation to the Indiana State House of Representatives comprises three representatives: Wendy McNamara (District 76), Gail Riecken (District 77), and Suzanne Crouch (District 78). Evansville and Vanderburgh County are represented by two state senators. In general, the southern third of the county and Armstrong Township are part of District 49, currently held by Jim Tomes. The county's west side is also in District 49. Most of the county is in District 50, which extends to the east, a seat held by Vaneta Becker.

The region is located in the 8th District of Indiana and served by U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon.. Google the rep from your area, and e-mail them telling them you’ve had enough of the meth problem in Evansville. Make pseudoephedrine to be a controlled substance and available by prescription only! I asked Dave and Brock what you should do if you suspect there’s a working meth lab in your area. Like, you noticed a funny, chemical smell…traffic at all hours and a constant large amount of trash, there’s a number where you can leave an anonymous tip…436-7918. Together, with the EPD and mayor, we can make our old city a bit safer and cleaner as she celebrates her 200th birthday.

Below, enjoy the mugshots of the three ‘smurfers’ busted on Monday!
