Evansville Movie Theater Offers Sensory Friendly Movie Times
Today I learned that AMC on Evansville's west side offers special movie times set aside for those with special sensory needs. I have friends who have kids that don't like to be overly stimulated, and they would really love this!
What are sensory-friendly films?
AMC partnered with the Autism Society to make sensory-friendly films a reality. During the film, they turn the volume down and keep the lights on. They also allow those in the theater to get up and walk around, dance, sing along, or whatever makes the film more enjoyable for them!
When are the sensory-friendly times?
The program takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of every month and on Wednesday evenings they offer a more mature sensory-friendly film.
Which films are currently sensory-friendly?
Currently, the three films showing in the sensory-friendly setting are:
- Sing 2
- Death on the Nile
- Spiderman No Way Home
- Please note this list is current as of 2/16/2022 so please check AMCtheaters.com for the current list.
I think this is such a cool way to make the movies an enjoyable experience for everyone. I think when we can make things more inclusive and welcoming, everyone wins. I love how well thought out this program is, and I think it's awesome that it's offered here in Evansville. I have so many friends who would really benefit from something like this. A place where their kids can also go and enjoy movies, but with their needs met, and in a way that they can dance, sing, and walk around free from judgment. It truly is a win for everyone.
Here's what AMC's website says about the sensory-friendly films program:
AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where we turn the lights up, and turn the sound down, so you can get up, dance, walk, shout or sing! Our Sensory Friendly Film program is available on the second and fourth Saturday (family-friendly) and Wednesday evenings (mature audiences) of every month. Please check your local theatre listings for specific showtimes, and don't forget to share your family fun with #AMCSensoryFriendly.
