Public Hearing Set in Warrick County as Data Center Debate Continues
The conversation surrounding large-scale data centers in Indiana is not slowing down anytime soon, and now Warrick County residents will soon have an opportunity to weigh in publicly.
According to reporting from the Princeton Daily Clarion, the Warrick County Area Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on June 8 regarding a proposed ordinance aimed at defining and regulating data centers within the county's Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance.
Data Centers Have Become a Growing Source of Debate Across Indiana
Over the last several months, data center proposals have sparked growing concerns and public pushback in communities across Indiana.
Residents opposing large-scale projects have raised concerns over:
- Massive water usage
- Power consumption
- Noise
- Environmental impacts
- Land use changes
- Strain on local infrastructure
- The long-term effects of AI-driven server expansion
Unlike traditional factories or manufacturing facilities, data centers often create far fewer long-term jobs relative to the amount of land, utilities, and resources they consume, which has become another major point of debate.

June 8 Meeting Will Focus on Ordinance Review
According to Warrick County Plan Commission Executive Director Molly Barnhill, the June 8 meeting will focus specifically on reviewing the proposed ordinance and accepting public comment.
The proposed ordinance would establish definitions and regulations for small, medium, and large data centers.
The public hearing is open to residents, with courthouse doors scheduled to open at 5:30 pm. The meeting is scheduled for 6 pm at the Warrick County Courthouse in downtown Boonville.
Data Center Discussions Began Last Year
The issue first gained public attention in Warrick County in late 2025 after the Utah-based consulting company Sourcecolo was scheduled to present to the Area Plan Commission regarding data center-related development discussions. That presentation was postponed multiple times.
Sourcecolo specializes in:
- Data centers
- Artificial intelligence infrastructure
- Cloud Systems
- Cybersecurity
- Managed services
However, county officials say no company presentations are currently planned for the June 8 hearing.
Residents are Encouraging Public Participation
As discussions continue online and throughout the community, some residents opposed to potential data center development are encouraging others to attend the June 8 meeting and voice their concerns directly during public comment.
The debate reflects a larger conversation unfolding nationwide as communities try to balance economic development opportunities with concerns about infrastructure demands, environmental impacts, and quality of life.
