"You could own a piece of history." If you've heard that catchphrase/selling point once, you've heard it a million times. I'm going on the assumption that those who utter it really mean it.

The Col Sanders Home & Claudia Sanders Dinner House Are for Sale

Well, those who are uttering it about a magnificent property in Shelby County KY absolutely mean it, and they're right. In fact, the Claudia Sanders House--a very popular and enormous restaurant in Shelbyville--and the accompanying residence she shared with her husband Colonel Harland Sanders form such a large chunk of real estate, it takes more than one person to move it. The thing is, they've been trying to move it for some time now.

The Sanders Property Has Been on the Market Since the Summer of 2022

When the Sanders restaurant and home went on the market in the summer of 2022, the asking price was $9 million. If you check you're calendar, you'll notice that here it is March of 2023, and there haven't been any takers. That's why it's now at $4.9 million.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken founder and his wife moved to the Shelbyville residence from Corbin in 1959. That's when they opened the Claudia Sanders Dinner House which also became the KFC headquarters.

Claudia sold it after the colonel passed away in 1980, and now those to whom she sold it are ready to move on and move out. And that's why the restaurant--which still operates daily--and home have been listed.

It's a 5,000-square-foot residence and 25,000-square-foot restaurant. Additionally, whoever ends up buying it will also get a lot of amazing Colonel Sanders memorabilia. That's a museum in and of itself.

So who's ready for a tour of an iconic property in north central Kentucky? I thought so. Here we go.

Kenny Rogers developed a taste for fine living early in his success. His ultra-lavish mansion in Bel Air, Calif., an estate called Lionsgate, was opulent even by celebrity standards. The 11-bedroom, 17-bathroom home totals 23,988 square feet of space, and it sits on 1.63 acres of some of the most expensive real estate in California.

The lavish interior includes a master suite that encompasses more than 3,000 square feet, three separate living rooms, seven fireplaces, a billiards room, a formal study, a private 12-seat theater with leather seats, a climate-controlled wine room that opens onto a saltwater pool, three steam showers and a large dry sauna. The property also features an outdoor glass elevator that leads to a large ballroom party space with an attached guest suite and a professional-sized gym.

The exterior of the house is just as lavish, including an outdoor living area with heated floors and a fully equipped bar, a tennis court with stadium lighting and a viewing area, a hot tub and extensive landscaping. Realtor.com calls Lionsgate the "most prestigious luxury estate" in Bel Air, boasting "possibly the best views in Los Angeles."

According to Business Insider, Rogers purchased the estate in the 1970s, and he added the lions to the gate and christened the home Lionsgate. He sold it in 1983 for $5.8 million, according to Variety, and the property most recently sold in 2015 for a staggering $46.25 million.
