When I was a kid, my parents took us to a gigantic flea market at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville.  I was (and still am) a huge music fan, so all I was really concerned with was the booths that had cassette tapes and albums and music memorabilia.  I found one vendor who superimposed posters of pop/rock stars onto wood and sealed them. In retrospect, they were hideous, but I had to have one.  So, I forked over $10 (maybe $12) and bought a mounted poster of Prince. It was hilariously tacky. In fact, I distinctly remember the bottom of the poster had hardened tree sap dangling off the end of it. I loved that poster and wish I had a photo of it to share with you.  Heck, I wish I still had the poster. Just know that it was hideous and perfect.

My friend Cathy Pickrell happens to be a big fan of Prince too.  She says they had a special relationship, but "he just didn't know about it." To this day, she dresses in purple on his birthday and, when he passed away in 2016, Cathy's friends and family reached out to her to make sure she was handling the news okay. She's a longtime fan. A devoted one.

She and her husband Jason have their own Prince artwork and it’s not nearly as ghastly as what I owned. They have two amazing pieces of Prince artwork in their home. This piece hangs in their hallway.

Cathy's friend Larry Simpson painted that for her and gave it to her as a birthday present back in 2019.

This piece, which is an Ike Moody original and was an anniversary gift from her husband Jason, hangs in Cathy's kitchen.

And Prince isn’t the only celebrity hanging in the Pickrell house.  The also have a print that features a Kentucky legend, Colonel Sanders- the creator of Kentucky Fried Chicken. In the photo, the Colonel is framed with two chickens.

Cathy says their son Jude picked out the Colonel print. She adds, “It’s his first art purchase.”

Of course, there’s even more “celebrity” art to enjoy at the Pickrell household. Another piece of Cathy’s artwork features the most famous cast members of Sesame Street.

Do you have any celebrities hanging on your walls?  If not, who would you frame and put on your wall?
