It's called "looking loudly" and it's something you definitely want to keep in the back of your mind.

Keeping Kids Safe

When I was pregnant, I remember people telling me how incredible the love you feel for your child is.  While that's true, no one prepared me for just how intense the need to keep him safe would be.  The whole "mama bear" phrase is totally true.

Like most moms, I try to do everything within my power to keep my son safe however, when you are out in public there are so many variables that it can sometimes be overwhelming.  I recently learned a tip that I will be keeping in my back pocket for the future, I hope I never have to use it, but it's definitely worth remembering.  The tip is called "look loudly."

How Looking Loudly Can Help You Locate Your Child

If you have kids or have ever been around kids, you probably know that kids are lightning fast.  You look away for half of a second and they are gone.  If you ever find yourself in a situation where your child goes missing in public, it can be easy to want to stay quiet and not make a scene, but looking loudly reminds you to do the opposite.  Instead of staying quiet, the look loudly method makes it so others join in on the search with you.

Say your kid runs away from you in the mall, and it's crowded, instead of looking around and maybe yelling their name, the look loudly method says to yell to get everyone's attention and toss out identifiers about your child.  It may look something like this:

I'm looking for a 2 year old boy, brown hair, red shirt with Spiderman on it, blue shorts, and white tennis shoes"

This does a couple of things, first, it gets attention and now you have multiple people joining in on the search for your child. Second, if someone happens to have your child, if they hear people shouting and making a scene with your child's description, they're more likely to let the child go.

I first heard of this safety tip on TIk Tok a while ago, and it's something that's stuck with me ever since, especially because I am the mom of a toddler. It turns out the look loudly method has recently gotten some more attention as one mom had success with it.

Mom Shares How the Look Loudly Method Helped Her Find Her Child

A Tik Tok created by Krista Piper recently went viral when she shared her experience of using the look loudly method to find her child. She took her 3-year-old daughter to a playground, and the day took a turn.  While Krista was talking with another parent at the park, she looked up and realized her daughter was out of sight.  She immediately started shouting her daughter's name but then remembered the look loudly method and started shouting:

little girl, pink shirt, minnie mouse shirt

This caught the attention of parents at the playground, and they began joining in on the search, and a mom at the playground spotted Krista's daughter.  Krista said within minutes she found her daughter thanks to this method.

Check out the video of Krista sharing her experience below, and definitely keep the look loudly method in the back of your mind.

@krista.piper I lost my 3 year old todah in a play place and thank god for tiktok - I’m so happy i saw that tiktok of what to do when your kid goes missing. I found her fast by raising my voice and saying a description of what she was wearing. Should have added her age or hair color but the description if little girl with pink minnie mouse shirt got thr job done finding her. #parents #parentsoftiktok #playplace ♬ original sound - Krista | Booktok | Home life
