Indiana Trout Stocking 2026 Fishing Season DNR

Indiana just stocked thousands of trout across the state, and anglers are getting ready to hit the water.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says it has stocked nearly 52,000 trout across the Hoosier state ahead of the spring fishing season.

Where Trout Are Being Stocked

According to the DNR, rainbow and brown trout have been released into 32 Indiana waterways, giving anglers plenty of options to find a spot.

Rainbow trout are expected to be stocked in streams by April 25, while brown trout stocking should wrap up by early May. Stocking for lakes has already been completed.

What Anglers Need To Know

If you are planning to fish for trout in Indiana, there are a few requirements to keep in mind.

Anglers 18 and older must have both an Indiana fishing license and a trout/salmon stamp.

These rules apply specifically to trout fishing and are required before casting a line.
