Henderson Kentucky Secures Major Win As Viking Cruise Port
Henderson has officially been named a permanent port of call for Viking River Cruises beginning in 2027, a move that will bring hundreds of visitors from around the world to the city’s riverfront and mark a major milestone for local tourism.
According to the Henderson Tourist Commission, travelers can now book 2027 itineraries that include Henderson as the Viking Mississippi expands its routes to include the Ohio River.
How Henderson Landed On Viking’s Map
Henderson’s relationship with Viking began unexpectedly in 2024, when last-minute itinerary changes sent newly launched Mississippi River cruises onto the Ohio River. Those early stops gave the community a chance to make a first impression, and it clearly worked.

Visitors were introduced to Henderson’s history, hospitality, and walkable riverfront, helping position the city as a natural fit for future itineraries. That early success ultimately led to Henderson being named a regular stop moving forward.
What Cruise Guests Will Experience In Henderson
Cruise passengers will have access to curated shore excursions designed to highlight Henderson’s character and culture. Experiences organized by the Henderson Tourist Commission include visits to Audubon State Park, the Porches and Petals Historic Home Tour, Bourbon and BBQ tastings, behind-the-scenes looks at Thoroughbred racing at Ellis Park, farm-to-table dining at Farmer and Frenchman Winery and Cafe, and tours of the historic Carnegie Library.
Each visit will kick off with a classic Kentucky welcome, complete with a bluegrass greeting by Kings Highway’s father and son duo, Mark and Zeb Hargis, as guests disembark.
Key 2027 Docking Dates To Know
The Viking Mississippi is scheduled to dock in Henderson on June 12, June 18, November 6, and November 12, 2027. One of those dates lines up perfectly with a local favorite.
Passengers arriving on Friday, June 18, will be in town during the W.C. Handy Blues and BBQ Festival, offering cruise guests a front row seat to Henderson’s music and food scene.
Why This Matters For The Region
“This is an incredible opportunity for us to welcome visitors from all over and share our community’s story,” said Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission. She added that becoming a permanent Viking stop reflects the strength of local partnerships and the memorable experiences created by Henderson’s businesses and residents.
For Henderson and the surrounding Tri-State region, this announcement puts the Ohio River town on an international travel map in a way that simply was not possible before.
