You expect to find food trucks parked around downtown Henderson.

A mobile sauna? Probably not on your radar. I know it wasn't on mine.

Except that's exactly what's turning heads at a new, local business called Melt, a unique wellness concept that combines a traditional Finnish-style sauna experience with ice-cold plunges, all operating out of a converted delivery truck and trailer set-up.

Located at 113 Second Street in downtown Henderson, Melt offers something that feels more like you'd find in a larger city than along the Ohio River.

A Sauna Built Inside a Truck

At first glance, it might look like an ordinary truck parked downtown.

Step inside, however, and you'll find a cedar-lined sauna heated to around 195 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to Melt, the sauna was inspired by traditional Finnish sauna culture, where water is poured over hot stones to create steam, a practice known as "löyly." The result is an intense heat designed to get you sweating before heading outside for the next part of the experience.

Then Comes the Cold Part

If the sauna sounds relaxing, the cold plunge is where things get interesting.

Melt features two separate cold plunge tubs housed in an enclosed trailer. One stays in the lower 50-degree range while the other hovers in the low 40s.

Participants move between the sauna and the cold water multiple times during a 90-minute session, allowing their bodies to heat up, cool down, rest, and repeat.

For anyone who has never tried cold plunging before, the experience can be a little intimidating. Yet, cold plunges have developed a loyal following among people who enjoy testing their limits.

A Growing Wellness Trend Reaches the Tri-State

Saunas and cold plunges have exploded in popularity in recent years, thanks in part to athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and social media influencers who swear by the practice.

Whether you're interested in the potential wellness benefits or simply curious about what it's like to sit in a 195-degree sauna before plunging into 40-degree water, there's no denying that Melt may be one of the most unique new businesses to arrive in the Tri-State this year. 12 Excellent Reasons to Visit Henderson KY

I've always enjoyed Henderson KY. Its downtown has always been well-maintained, with lots of local businesses that have been in operation for years. But branch out away from Main Street and you'll see that the city and its namesake county have a lot to offer.
