Isaac Mayer put on his first pair of baseball cleats at the young age of three...playing t-ball at Golfmoor Baseball on Evansville's west side. I bet his parents, Jacob and Kari, probably didn't think that 11 years later, their little tyke would have the chance to hit bombs in a major league stadium. But that's exactly what's about to happen.

Isaac is now 14 and plays ball for the Southern Indiana Spikes and he just finished up his cub season with Mater Dei. He recently won the Kansas City 14U regional home run derby and earned a trip to the 2019 MLB All-Star Game in Cleveland to participate in the National MLB's Junior Home Run Derby! Isaac will go up against nine other 14U regional winners from the U.S. and Canada.

I was one of Isaac's assistant coach many years ago and I can tell you that I am not surprised at all that he's a part of this competition. He's a great ball player who's been hitting bombs for a long time! Below you'll find a pic of the Golfmoor 'Scoranges' (Orange team + scoring runs). I'm the tall guy in the middle, with my son Oliver. Isaac is the kiddo with the blonde buzzcut to the left.

The Jr. Home Run Derby will be held on Saturday, July 6th at 6:30am at Progressive Field in Cleveland, the site for the 2019 MLB All-Star Game. You should be able to watch the derby if you have the MLB Network. Isaac and the rest of the finalists will attend a number of All-Star activities over the weekend. And then the young man who hits the most dingers in the Jr. Derby will be recognized at the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday, July 8th.

Good luck Isaac!
