An Indiana woman has been apprehended following an officer-involved shooting and vehicle chase that began in Warrick County.

Chandler Police Confront Suspect Armed with Sword

According to a release from the Indiana State Police shared by Sergeant Todd Ringle of the ISP's Evansville District, the incident began this morning when a 911 call came into dispatch regarding a reckless driver.

The driver was reportedly traveling westbound on Indiana State Route 62, near the Boonville Walmart.   Approximately two minutes after the 911 call, a Chandler Police Officer made contact with the suspect vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver refused to stop.

Suspect Steals Police Cruiser After Being Shot

The vehicle, reported as a Toyota Corolla, eventually stopped after the suspect crashed into a ditch on Heim Road in Chandler between Inderrieden Road and Lincoln Avenue. After crashing their vehicle, the suspect then exited their vehicle, and authorities observed the suspect wearing a helmet and swinging an object that police say appeared to be a sword.

The suspect allegedly swung the sword-like object near the police officer, who then discharged their service weapon. According to the report by Indiana State Police, the suspect was struck "at least once" by gunfire. The suspect then managed to gain access to the officer's police vehicle and drove away, headed toward Boonville.

High-Speed Pursuit Crosses State Lines into Kentucky

Indiana State Police report that the suspect was able to elude police before being spotted by an officer with the Rockport Police Department. The Rockport officer reported the stolen Chandler Police was traveling south on US 231 near County Road 350 North.

Final Crash and Arrest in Daviess County, Kentucky

Authorities attempted to stop the suspect, but they continued southbound "at speeds of more than 120 mph." The suspect crossed into Kentucky, traveling on US 60. It was at that time that the vehicle left the roadway near Terminal Road in Owensboro. Authorities say the vehicle crashed into an open field and the suspect fled on foot.

Suspect Identified as Nina Adalina Devillez of Santa Claus, Indiana

The suspect was apprehended by the Rockport Police officer and a deputy with the Daviess County, Kentucky Sheriff's Office. The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Nina Adalina Devillez. Devillez is reportedly a resident of Santa Claus, Indiana.

Investigation Underway; Officer on Administrative Leave

Indiana State Police say the arrest of Devillez was a joint effort between multiple agencies, including the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky, as well as the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Boonville Police Department, and Rockport Police Department in Indiana.

The Chandler Police officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
