A new innovative app has just been released to help you plan out your April, 8th total solar eclipse experience.

The Planetary Society, led by Bill Nye - the Science Guy, and The Eclipse Company have collaborated to create a mobile app to help you get the most out of your eclipse viewing experience, and the features of the app are quite extraordinary.

Find Your Viewing Location with the Eclipse App

Inside the app, built by Stephen Watkins and Jesse Tomlinso, you can choose which state you are interested in viewing the total solar eclipse from, and from there it will give you all of the communities within the path of totality, including their total time of totality. Once you select a location, you will be able to access all kinds of information.

Eclipse App Free Version Features

There is both a free version of the Eclipse App and a paid Pro version. With the free version of the app, you can explore community locations, planned events, and viewing sites, as well as times of totality. Users are also able to view historical cloud cover for the area, save locations for easy access, and subscribe to bulletins from eclipse community partners.

Eclipse App Pro Version Features

With the Pro version of the Eclipse App, you will experience totality to the fullest. You will have access to hourly forecasts so you can have an idea of how much cloud cover to expect, if any for your selected viewing location. This is handy information if you need to change plans to account for cloud cover and visibility. You will also have access to enhanced community information where you can plan an itinerary, explore attractions in the area, and more.

Also with the Pro version's guided countdown feature, you will be able to receive notifications - both audibly and through vibration - as the eclipse nears totality on April 8th.
