Early Reviews Call ‘Wonder Woman’ the Best DC Universe Movie Yet
So far the reviews of the DC Extended Universe movies have been ... uh, what’s the opposite of good? Bad. They’ve been bad. The first three movies — Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad — have an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 36. That is bad. The opposite of good. For sure.

There are awards for everything in Hollywood except craft services (at least to my knowledge; if there are craft services awards please let me know, I’d love to attend and eat the food). That means there are trophies for movie trailers, which are honored each year by the Golden Trailer Awards...

The awesome trailers and posters for Wonder Woman play up the movie’s heroes: Gal Gadot as Princess Diana, who leaves behind her home of Themyscira to join the world of men; Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, a World War I pilot who becomes her love interest, and Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta, Diana’s mother. The marketing does a great job of selling the movie’s action, tone, and mood — but it’s barely addressed who, if anyone is the movie’s primary villain.

When it comes to online movie polls, which ones do you think the public is usually most excited for: little indie pictures or huge superhero/sci-fi/fantasy blockbusters? Spoiler alert— it’s the blockbusters. Shocking, I know. In Fandango’s year-end poll of the most anticipated movies of 2017, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the live-action Beauty and the Beast took the top spots.

Ever since the Wonder Woman trailer blew the doors off of Comic-Con International, fans have been ready for another round of footage or trailers. Everything about the character  lends hope to the idea that Wonder Woman will be the movie to right the sinking ship of the DC Cinematic Universe. The Year One storyline in Wonder Woman is, at least to me, the most exciting part of Greg Rucka's return to the character. Sure, her origin has been told many times --- in fact Renae De Liz and Grant Morrison have both rewritten it just in the past year. But this take is important for two reasons: First, even though he's had a previous run on the book and is beloved by most Wonder Woman fans, this is the first time Greg Rucka has covered this ground. And secondly, this comes at a time when the ground needs to be covered. Check out an exclusive preview of issue #4!
