A beloved Evansville small business that has become synonymous with Halloween is preparing for a major change.

The owners of The Nick Nackery, Dan and Jana Bean, have announced plans to sell the iconic year-round Halloween and horror destination as they prepare for retirement and a move abroad.

A New Chapter For A Local Halloween Institution

For nearly 40 years, Nick Nackery has been serving the Evansville community with costumes, masks, specialty decor, and signature events, and the Beans say the decision comes after thoughtful reflection about long term goals and lifestyle changes.

“We feel this is the right time to consider living in another country and embracing a new season of life,” the owners shared. “The Nick Nackery has meant so much to us, and we are incredibly proud of what it has become.”

For now, it is business as usual.

The Nick Nackery will continue operating year-round with extended Halloween hours, its expansive costume selection, and the community-driven events that have made it a Tri-State destination for horror fans.

What The Sale Includes

The sale includes the established retail operation, brand identity, vendor relationships, and the longstanding community presence that has helped define The Nick Nackery for generations of Evansville families.

“Our priority is finding the right person or persons to continue the legacy,” the owners said. “This store is more than just a store. It is tradition, creativity, and a gathering place for people who love Halloween. We want to see that continue for many years to come.”

The Beans are actively seeking a buyer who will preserve the store’s unique spirit while building on its strong foundation.

The Nick Nackery remains open year-round and is preparing for another unforgettable Halloween season.

Interested parties can contact Shaun Angel at Shaun@AngelTeamRealty.com regarding the sale.

For Evansville and the surrounding communities, this marks the possible beginning of a new era for one of the region’s most unique retail landmarks.
