If you have ever wanted to train to be a weather spotter, you're about to get plenty of opportunities thanks to the National Weather Service.  The NWS office in Paducah has published its list of dates for Spring Spotter Training Webinars.  Here's the current schedule:

Saturday February 6, 2021 9:00am CST (Morning class)

Thursday February 11, 2021 6:00pm CST

Thursday February 18, 2021 6:00pm CST

Monday February 22, 2021 6:00pm CST

Wednesday February 24, 2021 9:00am CST (Morning class)

Tuesday March 2, 2021 6:00pm CST

Monday March 8, 2021 6:00pm CST

Thursday March 11, 2021 6:00pm CST

Wednesday March 17, 2021 6:00pm CDT

Saturday March 20, 2021 6:00pm CDT

 Tuesday March 23, 2021 9:00am CDT (Morning class)

Each Spotter class lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours and is absolutely FREE. Following completion of the course, you "will have the tools necessary to become an official Skywarn Spotter with the National Weather Service."

Of course, the National Weather Service depends on an army of spotters throughout the WBKR listening area.  Spotter reports are key, in conjunction with radar reports, for issuing tornado warnings, severe storm warnings, flood warnings and more.
