The Melvins have been forced to cancel an upcoming European tour after drummer Dale Crover—also an early drummer for Nirvana—sustained a back injury that precludes his involvement. The musician shared as much in a statement Wednesday (June 5) via social media, which can be read below.

The canceled dates were set to follow the Melvins' latest album, 2018's Pinkus Abortion Technician, the follow-up to the previous year's A Walk with Love and Death.

"I regret to inform you that I have to cancel our upcoming European tour," Crover's message began. "I've been dealing with a back related injury and I'm unable to perform at this time." The Melvins' tour was due to kick off next week in the U.K. before winding its way through Europe, wrapping things up with a performance in Manchester, England, originally scheduled for July 11. View the canceled dates here.

The Melvins were formed in 1983 by frontman Buzz Osborne with bassist Matt Lukin (also of Mudhoney) and drummer Mike Dillard. Crover replaced Dillard soon after, and the band relocated to Aberdeen, Washington, where they integrated with Seattle's early grunge scene. Crover was part of Kurt Cobain's pre-Nirvana music project, Fecal Matter, and his drumming is featured on three songs on Nirvana's 1989 debut album, Bleach.

Dear Friends,

I regret to inform you that I have to cancel our upcoming European tour. I’ve been dealing with a back related injury and I’m unable to perform at this time.

I feel awful that I have to let you all down like this. I want to assure you that I’m working very hard to return 100% better! We will come back as soon as we can.

Thank you for understanding,

Dale Crover
