Ever since I saw Back To The Future II it has been my life long dream to own a hoverboard. I even took up skateboarding as a kid in hopes that the hobby could transfer.

As 2015 (the 'future' in BTTF II) quickly approaches, hope seemed to dim that a hoverboard would ever be. But leave it up to the folks at Mattel to change all that.

According to the press release from Mattel:

Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually ‘hover’ – check back in 2015 for that feature). We’ll be taking orders for it March 1 – March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012…The price will be announced later this month. (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)”

There is a bit more to that disclaimer though. Just like the Marty McFly Nikes that recently came out, this hoverboard won't come with super cool futuristic technology. That means that it won't work on water, or pretty much at all.

Well scientists you have three more years, I think you can put the cure for cancer on hold a little bit longer.

Although when that kid in BTTF II is amazed at the video game where you have to 'use your hands', I have to give a weird look to my Kinect.
