Beginning June 3, 2024, portions of the Lloyd Expressway in Evansville, Indiana will be reduced to a single lane of traffic.

$150+ Million Lloyd Expressway Project

In 2023, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced the Lloyd4U initiative. It's a $150+ million investment that includes dozens of improvement projects to make the Lloyd Expressway more driver-friendly - or as INDOT put it "Making the Lloyd Work for You."

Lane Closures Coming to State Road 62

A portion of the improvements to The Lloyd will begin on June 3, 2024, with lane closures to the eastbound lanes. According to a post to Facebook from Indiana State Police Sargent Todd Ringle, the eastbound lanes of the Lloyd will be reduced to one lane between Barker Avenue and the Vanderburgh-Posey County Line.

Slow Down and Give Extra Room

In his post, Sargent Ringle goes on to remind motorists to expect delays as only one lane will be open for eastbound traffic. He also recommends increasing your following distance to allow more time to stop and to help avoid accidents.

Shoulder Strengthening Project

According to a release from INDOT via theLoyd4U.com, the closures are to allow for shoulder strengthening as part of the project. They say the work will take about a month, assuming the weather cooperates.

Crews will reinforce the outside shoulders with fresh pavement along S.R. 62 to accommodate future Lloyd4U traffic shifts. Shoulder strengthening will occur in two-mile sections as work progresses eastward to Barker Avenue. This phase of work is expected to take a month to complete, weather permitting.
