Kentucky Artist Creates Stunning 2D Converse Sneakers
Louisville Artist Brings Converse To Life In 2D
One Louisville, Kentucky, artist is turning heads by turning shoes into wearable works of art that look like they’ve leapt straight off the pages of a comic book. Her specialty? Transforming classic Converse sneakers into 2D-style masterpieces that blur the line between fashion and illustration.
From Carpentry To Canvas: A Decade Of Creativity
Laura Morrison tells us she's been creating for more than 10 years, and only recently started working with shoes as her canvas.
“I’ve been making art for over a decade,” she shared. “I’ve dabbled in just about every medium you can think of - carpentry, string art, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, resin work, jewelry making, crocheting, wood-burning, drawing, embroidery… the list goes on.”

How A Pinterest Scroll Sparked The 2D Style
But it was a late-night scroll through Pinterest that sparked her now-signature style. She says she saw a dresser someone had painted to look 2-dimensional. She shared that her husband used to play Borderlands all the time, and she has always loved the cel-shaded art style. She decided to try working that style into her own art, and applying it to shoes.
The Birth Of An Elegant Rebellion
Her first pair started as a $15 Facebook Marketplace find. After researching materials and techniques, she painted her inaugural pair of 2D Converse, and An Elegant Rebellion was born. The name, inspired by her two daughters, reflects the blend of creativity and individuality that drives her work: “Their very different personalities come together and make something beautiful.”
Where To See Or Order 2D Converse
Each pair of her hand-painted sneakers is a blend of nostalgia, precision, and pop-art flair, and they're proof that even an everyday item can become extraordinary in the hands of the right artist. You can see a gallery of her work below, and get details on how to order your own custom pair!
