Every Evansville Restaurant That Has Closed in 2026 So Far and What Is Coming to Replace Them
Can You Believe We Are Already Halfway Through 2026?
I cannot believe we are already in June. Half the year is gone and wow, a lot has changed already. One thing I have always loved about being in media is that you tend to get information about what is happening around you before most people do. And one thing I have a serious love hate relationship with is seeing restaurants close, especially when they are being replaced by places I am actually excited about.
I am a little bitter if I am being honest, because most of the places that have closed this year are spots I had not even gotten around to trying yet. But on the bright side, it does give me a very good excuse to explore whatever comes next. So let us take a look at everything that has closed in Evansville so far in 2026 and what is on the way to fill those spots.
The Restaurants That Have Closed or Are Closing in 2026
It has been a tough year for some Evansville staples and it is worth taking a moment to acknowledge that before we get to the exciting news.

Jaya's Authentic Foods closed on January 1st after serving downtown Evansville for 45 years. The owner, Jaya, retired to spend more time with family. Forty five years is an incredible run and that kind of legacy deserves to be celebrated.
Applebee's, both Evansville locations, permanently closed in February after roughly 30 years in the community. Whether you loved it or had not been in years, losing both locations at once was a big deal for a lot of people in this city.
Fazoli's on Weston Road on the west side also permanently closed in February 2026. Another one that had been around long enough to feel like a fixture.
Señor Burrito Mexican Grill closed its North Main Street location in May, though this one is more of a relocation than a full shutdown. They have indicated plans to reopen in a new location, so hopefully we have not seen the last of them.
Salsarita's Fresh Mexican Grill on Morgan Avenue shut down in early June, with the owners citing rising costs including utilities, rent, and labor. They released a really heartfelt statement thanking Evansville for nine years of support, and you could tell this one was not an easy decision.
Osaka in Newburgh is closing June 15 which makes me sad because that was always my grab and go dining in meal and I wouldn't even have to drive there I could walk!

Copper House announced it will close at the end of June 2026 after years of serving customers on the west side. If you have been meaning to go, now is the time.
Roppongi Japanese Steak and Sushi announced it will permanently close on July 31st after 15 years in business. This one genuinely stings. Fifteen years is a long time and Roppongi had a loyal following for good reason.

Madeleine's Fusion Restaurant remains temporarily closed following a major fire. There is no official word yet on whether or when it will reopen, but we are keeping an eye on it.
Now For the Silver Lining
Okay, I promised you good news and here it is. Because for every door that closes, it looks like something exciting is on the way to take its place. Evansville's restaurant scene is not slowing down, it is just changing, and some of these upcoming openings have me genuinely excited.

Wild Eggs already opened its first Evansville location in February on Hirschland Road and it has been one of the biggest openings of the year. If you have not been yet, the breakfast and brunch menu is seriously worth the trip.
Blaze Pizza opened its first Evansville location on Menards Drive earlier this year, bringing fast casual customizable personal pizzas to the east side. Great option when you want something quick but actually good.
09 Mochi is a new spot on the east side near Wild Eggs specializing in mochi donuts, bubble tea, and Korean corn dogs. This one has been on my radar and I need to get there soon.
Terrica's is a new downtown steakhouse concept in development on Main Street that has already generated a lot of local curiosity. Details are still coming together but the buzz around this one is real.

Cookie Bite Pastry is one of the most anticipated local openings and you have probably already heard me talk about this one. The popular pastry shop is preparing to open its first brick and mortar storefront on Franklin Street in the former Siciliano Subs building on Franklin Street. We cannot wait.
Raising Cane's is probably the most talked about restaurant announcement of 2026 in Evansville. Plans have been filed for a location on East Indiana Street, taking over the current Roppongi spot. No opening date has been announced yet but the excitement is already real.

Swig is technically not a restaurant but it absolutely deserves a spot on this list. The wildly popular dirty soda chain is expected to open its first Tri State location in Evansville this year near Green River Road and Morgan Avenue, and if you know Swig, you know this is a big deal.
Evansville Is Always Evolving
Losing restaurants that have been part of this community for years is never easy, and some of these closures genuinely hurt. But Evansville keeps showing up with new ideas, new flavors, and new reasons to go out and explore. I will be doing my part to support as many of these new spots as possible, and I suggest you do the same. 🍽️✨
