What was Inside the 111 Year Old Time Capsules in Princeton? [Photos]

A huge community celebration was held in Princeton, Indiana, unveiling the contents of 3 time capsules.

We chatted with Dr. Eric Goggins with the North Gibson School Corporation just before the big unveiling. He told us that he was both nervous and excited to see exactly what is in each time capsule.

Calling in the Experts

As you can imagine, opening a time capsule that has been sealed for over 100 years requires special tools. A Conservator from the Indiana State Library was put to the task of opening the capsules and then carefully removing the contents. He has a special set of tools to collect delicate artifacts.

Farmer's Picnic

The blue program caught my eye from this time capsule. There was a Farmer's Picnic held at the Princeton Fairgrounds. Activities began with a parade - Is it just me or did they have a parade for almost anything back in the day? You were asked to bring 'Well-Filled Baskets' to the picnic.

Letters and Bills

It's going to be very interesting to see what people back in 1912 wrote in letters. Some of them are addressed to specific people. Then you can see a Princeton Light & Electric bill. I'm guessing that the rates were much lower back then.

Toy Gun

I'm pretty sure that you would get flagged if you tried to sell this toy gun on eBay.

Did Not Last the Tale of Time

The contents of one of the time capsules did not hold up very well.

Everything looks a bit dirty. Hopefully the Conservator will be able to salvage some of the items.

Well Preserved

It is hard to believe that the contents of this time capsule are 111 years old. Here you'll see the Bible, a flyer for an event, and a pamphlet for School Authorities and School Physicians.
