In a significant stride towards enhancing community safety and disaster preparedness, Bally’s Evansville has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first casino in the United States to receive StormReady accreditation from the National Weather Service. What is the StormReady Program?
The StormReady program, administered by the National Weather Service, equips communities with essential communication and safety skills required to effectively respond to a range of extreme weather events. These skills are vital in the crucial moments leading up to, during, and after such events.
To be officially StormReady, a community must:
- Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
- Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public
- Create a system that monitors weather conditions locally
- Promote the importance of public readiness through community seminars
- Develop a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises.
