This Gorgeous French Lick Hotel Looks Straight Out of a Horror Film and Guess What? It Is
Before we go any further, I want to share with you a moment of prescience (sort of) on my part. Several years ago, I posted the following on Instagram...
"Hey, 1970s made-for-TV horror movie! You forgot your house!"
West Baden Springs Hotel
It was a caption for the image you see above that I took at the magnificent West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick, and I was not joking. If you go to the free streaming service Tubi, or even YouTube, you might run across some old made-for-TV horror movies from the 1970s. And if you do, I'm sure you'll encounter a setting or two that resembles this beautiful hotel.
French Lick Hotel Appears in 2022 Horror Film
Well, lo and behold, there was a horror movie filmed in French Lick, and it was quite recent, too. I'm not sure how a 2022 release escaped my notice, or how I've never heard about it until now, but it exists, and I must find it. I'm guessing, based on this post, it shouldn't be too hard.
What Is So Cold the River About?
In So Cold the River, a documentary filmmaker tries to get her career back on track via a profile of a dying multi-millionaire in a small Indiana town. Her research evolves into an obsession as she discovers horrifying secrets the man's tiny hometown does not want revealed.
I only recognized one of the cast members, but hers isn't really a well-known face unless you see a lot of Broadway plays. To be clear, I have not, but I also recognize her from various guest appearances on series and in movies. And when I looked up Deanna Dunagan, I saw an impressive list of theatre credits.
So Cold the River is currently streaming for free on The Roku Channel and Plex.
