My Totally Unofficial Ranking of Coffee Shops in Evansville
by Taylor Howe & Jess Willsey
Evansville might not be the first city that comes to mind when people think of a standout coffee scene, but locals know better. This city runs on caffeine and community. From cozy corners perfect for studying to lively spots buzzing with conversation, Evansville’s coffee shops offer far more than a simple morning pick-me-up.
Over the past few weeks, we set out on a mission: visit ten local coffee shops, take in their atmosphere, sample their drinks, and experience the unique personality each one brings to the city. The result is a friendly ranking of our favorites—not to crown a single “winner,” but to celebrate the flavors, vibes, and people that make Evansville’s coffee culture worth exploring.
Whether you’re new to town, searching for your next study spot, or just on the hunt for a great latte, consider this your guide to sipping your way through the city. Follow along as we share our journey—just two college girls with a love for coffee and discovering great local spots.
10. Penny Lane Coffeehouse
Starting off our list at number ten is Penny Lane Coffeehouse, located downtown. This stop felt like the busiest of our entire tour. From the moment we walked in, there wasn’t a single open seat, making it clear just how popular this spot is.
Despite the crowd, the space still felt welcoming. It was filled with people studying, chatting, and working—giving it the energy of a true downtown hangout. The menu offered a solid mix of classic and creative drinks, so we decided to try a sugar-free caramel latte with almond milk and a marshmallow latte.
Both drinks were smooth, balanced, and just the right amount of sweet without being overwhelming. Even with how busy it was, Penny Lane felt like a place we’d come back to, especially when we’re in the mood for a lively coffee shop atmosphere.

9. Revival Coffee Co.
Coming in at number nine is Revival Coffee Co., a spot that immediately felt calm and inviting. Located inside The Hills Church, the open layout creates a relaxed and welcoming environment.
While there were people coming and going, it never felt loud or overwhelming. Instead, it had an easygoing energy that made it a great place to sit, talk, or unwind. We visited during their Valentine’s Day menu and ordered the Red Velvet Cold Brew and the Marshmallow Honey Latte.
Both drinks were creative and flavorful. The cold brew was rich with a subtle sweetness, while the marshmallow honey latte was smooth and mellow. Revival set a strong tone early in our tour, reminding us that a great coffee shop is just as much about atmosphere as it is about the drinks.

8. River City Coffee + Goods
At number eight is River City Coffee + Goods, another downtown location with a unique twist. This shop combines a coffee bar with a boutique featuring local goods and gifts, giving customers more to explore than just the menu.
While waiting for our drinks, we found ourselves browsing the shop, which added an extra layer to the experience. The space felt modern yet cozy, and even during busy moments, it never felt overwhelming.
We ordered the 812 Latte and an iced caramel latte. Both were simple, smooth, and well-made. River City stood out because it offered more than just coffee; it created a space where you could relax, shop, and enjoy the local feel all at once.

7. River Kitty Cat Cafe
Taking the number seven spot is River Kitty Cat Cafe, one of the most unique stops on our list. This downtown café combines coffee with a cat lounge, where adoptable cats roam, play, and interact with guests in a separate enclosed space.
For a small additional fee, visitors can enter the lounge and spend time with the cats. While we chose to stay in the café seating area, even watching the cats from our table added something special to the experience.
We ordered an iced maple butter mouser, an iced caramel vanilla latte with almond milk, and a few macarons. Everything paired well with the relaxed and playful atmosphere. Between the drinks and the cats, this stop easily became one of the most memorable and fun experiences of our coffee tour.

6. Donut Bank
Rounding out this portion of our list at number six is Donut Bank, a well-known local chain with multiple locations across Evansville and the surrounding Tri-State area.
Donut Bank offers an extensive menu, including coffees, cold brews, energy drinks, smoothies, juices, donuts, cookies, and other pastries. They also rotate seasonal menus, keeping things fresh with new and creative options.
When we visited, we were greeted with friendly service and helpful recommendations. We chose a banana iced latte and a Turtle iced latte (featuring chocolate, caramel, and butter pecan), and both were flavorful and satisfying.
Of course, we couldn’t skip the donuts—we went with a raspberry-filled glazed donut and a vanilla-filled chocolate long john. Both were delicious, and we even considered going back for more. The festive Mardi Gras decorations added to the welcoming atmosphere, making the visit even more enjoyable.
Donut Bank is a reliable and fun option with something for everyone, making it a great stop no matter what you’re craving.
