The iconic backdrop of the story about a young woman who vacations in the Catskills with her family at an all-inclusive getaway for the summer is actually located in Virginia.

It's now only a couple of hours' drive from Kentucky, but it's about a 7 1/2-hour drive from the Tri-State.

I know that's a long drive, but the Dirty Dancing Weekends just might be worth the road trip!

What Happens at a Dirty Dancing Weekend?

The weekend is filled with dance parties, a costume contest, trivia, a scavenger hunt and, of course, dance lessons. And you've seen the movie. You know where this is going.

You can choose between a group dance lesson or a private lesson. Va va va voom.

The weekend includes:

• Breakfast, lunch and dinner
• A Dirty Dancing-themed scavenger hunt
• Dirty Dancing trivia
• Group dance lessons
• Dance parties in Mary's Barn on Friday and Saturday night
• A full weekend itinerary of Dirty Dancing-themed activities

If dancing isn't really your thing, there's still plenty to do at Mountain Lake Lodge.

You can book an excursion, spend the day at the spa, go off-roading, try archery, go river rafting, fishing, or golfing, or enjoy lawn games, nature walks, or just relax at the pool and hot tub.

Basically, you can recreate the Dirty Dancing experience or make the weekend your own.

You can also ask about the Dirty Dancing Summer Days Festival. This past August, they held a Dirty Dancing Festival that was like the Dirty Dancing weekend on steroids. They had live music, amped u dance parties, and more.
