Kentucky Town Among HGTV’s Most Charming Small Downtowns
HGTV just put a spotlight on one Kentucky small town's "charming" downtown.
Kentucky towns are really a hot topic lately. When it comes to the Commonwealth, we have no shortage of small towns with a few big cities scattered in there, too. Everyone has small-town pride nowadays. Recently, we have covered many of these towns in articles such as Kentucky city is one of the most mispronounced places in America, the safest town in Kentucky, a Kentucky city named one of the rudest in America, and one Kentucky city is among the best in the nation for pet owners.
To keep up with the theme of Kentucky towns, HGTV has ranked the top 40 'Most Charming Small Downtowns in America'. According to HGTV, these small downtowns welcome visitors with historic architecture and boutique shops or local culture and tree-lined streets. Many small downtowns are located in beautiful settings or have stunning views. Others welcome visitors with lively festivals, delicious foods, or a nostalgic atmosphere.
Out of all the possibilities, and narrowing them down to only 40, HGTV found that one Kentucky town's downtown area is among the best.
Kentucky Town Among HGTV’s Most Charming Small Downtowns
There are a lot of charming small downtowns throughout Kentucky. However, only one of them was selected to be among HGTV's Most Charming Small Downtowns. That honor goes to Covington.
What makes Covington's downtown so charming? Here's what HGTV had to say:
Covington, Kentucky, may be just across the flowing Ohio River from Cincinnati, but you will feel worlds away in Mainstrasse Village, the lively 19th century German-inspired section of town. The colorful Bavarian-style village is enchanting year-round, drawing in visitors eager to see the Goose Girl Fountain and the Carroll Chimes Bell Tower. On the hour, mechanical figures exit the top of the tower as the glockenspiel plays. Raise a beer stein to celebrate Bavarian culture and heritage with music, dancing, bratwurst and lederhosen at the annual Covington Oktoberfest festivities.
I have to admit, Covington does look quite charming. I have family in that area who speak highly of the things to do there. Plus, it's right across the river from Cincinnati and in a region where other bigger cities aren't far away. So it might make for the perfect stop for you before visiting that area. Or, perhaps, you might just want to spend a weekend in Covington to soak in all it has to offer!
