Before on-demand, streaming, DVRs, and even VCRs, if you wanted to catch a TV show you needed to have your butt on the couch (or, in a recliner) when the show started---or risk missing it forever.

At one time, many TV shows would run their content twice, once when the TV season was going on, and then they'd rerun the series in the summer for those who missed out in the fall. All of those hoops to jump through meant that there were a lot of shows you just never got to see.

That's no longer a problem. Our problem now is that there are just so, so many things to try to keep up on, you just don't have enough hours in a week to catch every show available to you. And if you don't have every streaming service you're still going to miss out on the shows people are buzzing about.
