A Christmas Movie Is Filming In Henderson And They’re Looking For Extras
If you’ve ever wanted to see how a Christmas movie comes together, or secretly hoped to spot yourself in the background of one, this might be your moment.
A new Christmas comedy titled Holly Jolly is set to film in downtown Henderson, Kentucky, later this month, and the production is currently looking for local extras.
According to the Henderson Tourist Commission, exterior scenes for the movie are set to begin filming on January 29. The production, led by Goldenrod Film & TV, will spend about one week filming across Henderson and Owensboro, with three to four of those days taking place in downtown Henderson.
A Christmas Movie Is Turning Downtown Henderson Into A Film Set
The movie is described as a Christmas comedy, and while specific plot details have not been released, local officials say Henderson’s historic downtown will play a starring role.
Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission, called the project a win for the community, noting that it will highlight Henderson’s streetscapes while supporting local businesses and tourism.
This production is part of a growing trend in western Kentucky as more film and television projects choose the region as a backdrop.
Why This Movie Is Filming In Western Kentucky
The arrival of Holly Jolly is directly tied to Kentucky’s reinstated and expanded entertainment incentive tax credits, along with the region’s participation in the West Kentucky Film Commission. Those efforts have made communities like Henderson more attractive to production companies looking for distinctive locations and film-friendly infrastructure.
Local leaders say the economic impact extends beyond filming days, bringing visibility, short-term employment opportunities, and increased foot traffic to the area.
How To Apply To Be A Movie Extra
Local residents are being considered for background roles in the film. Anyone interested in being an extra should email the production team directly at hollyjollymovie@gmail.com. Submissions should include a headshot, name, age, phone number, and general availability. The inbox is managed by the production company, not the city or tourism office.
What To Expect If You’re Selected
Extras typically spend long days on set, often waiting between scenes, but it is also a chance to see filmmaking up close and be part of a project that will eventually reach a wide audience.
Filming is scheduled to take place during the final days of January, meaning parts of downtown Henderson may temporarily look a little more festive than usual.
For many locals, it is not every day that a Christmas movie shows up in their hometown, especially one that could put Henderson on screen for viewers far beyond the region.
