Donna The Hippo

"Donna Day" found a way into the people of Evansville's hearts upon her arrival to the Mesker Park Zoo in August of 1956. Donna was born in 1951 and came to Mesker Park Zoo with a male hippopotamus "Hippie Kley". During her lifetime, Donna had eight babies all of which she outlived. Donna made many friends during her time at the Zoo. Donna was 60 years old when she died in July 2012 making her the oldest hippo in captivity. A memorial to Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Gardens most famous resident to date is currently in the planning stages.
