Adorable New Penguin Chick Hatched at Indiana Zoo
One Indiana zoo has welcomed a new addition to its animal family after a pair of Humboldt penguins gave birth to a new baby last month.
Meet Euchre, the New Penguin Chick
The new penguin chick was born at Evansville's Mesker Park Zoo to Penguins of Patagonia exhibit residents Adrian and Chirrida. The new chick was born June 16th and has been named Euchre (pronounced like the card game) by zoo staff. While Euchre is hitting all of the growth milestones for a penguin chick, it is not known yet if it's a boy or a girl.
A Growing Penguin Family
Since Humboldt penguins are known to be monogamous, with the female choosing her mate, Euchre isn't the first chick born to Adrian and Chirrida. It is welcomed to the flock by its big brother, Louie Pickle, who was born to the penguin pair in 2023.

What to Know About Humboldt Penguins
The Penguins of Patagonia exhibit first opened in October 2021, and is home to more than a dozen penguins native to parts of Chilé and Peru.
Each penguin that we house was bred with the purpose of coming to Evansville to teach our guests why Humboldt penguins are so special and need our help to survive into the future! We received birds from 6 different institutions across the country. This helps ensure we have a good mix of genetics for potential breeding down the line. When the time comes, we will breed animals to build the numbers in our own flock, as well as send some to other AZA - Mesker Park Zoo
Feed the Penguins at Mesker Park Zoo
For a small fee, visitors to Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden can feed the penguins at the exhibit. Penguin feedings take place at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm, and there is a daily Penguin Keeper Presentation at 10 am and 3 pm.
