Groot’s Last Line in Infinity War Got Translated, and It Hurts
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVEN'T SEEN INFINITY WAR YET.
So, it's been a week since Infinity War came out and my heart still hurts. It's a lot to process. And now James Gunn has pierced my heart once again with just ONE WORD.
As we all know by now (because if you're still reading this that means you've seen the movie or are completely ignoring my SPOILER WARNING from above...) that we had to say goodbye to a LOT of characters. Some have the potential to come back. I call these the "dust in the wind" characters. Others, unfortunately, were not so lucky, and won't be coming back. Ever.
And all of those "dust in the wind" characters had heartbreaking last lines. Including Groot.
Who knew "I am Groot" could have so many heart wrenching meanings??
But what exactly did his last "I...am...Groot...?" translate to?
Well, one brave soul decided to ask James Gunn, director and writer of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and who I can only assume is fluent in Groot, what Groot's last words translated to.
And it hurts.
It hurts a lot.
REMINDER: Groot was looking a Rocket when he said this.
GROOT THINKS ROCKET IS HIS DAD.
And Rocket has to hear this, and feel this realization, WHILE WATCHING GROOT FLOAT OFF INTO OBLIVION.
I need to go sit in a corner right now and attempt to process all of the feels I am feeling...
