What a strange and tragic story for Zurlon Tipton, the former Colts running back and special teams member. Tipton died Tuesday from a gunshot wound after one his guns was accidentally discharged. He was just 26 years old.

According to police and several news reports, Tipton was removing a duffel bag from the trunk of his car when one of the two guns in the bag discharged a round that hit him in the stomach. He was taken to the hospital and was apparently in good condition. He was alert and speaking with people. Despite this fact, Tipton later died from his wound.

The Colts tweeted: "Our thoughts are with the Tipton family during this difficult time. #RIPZurlon."

Tipton, a Michigan native, struggled to find his place in the NFL, bouncing back and forth from the active roster to the practice squad. He was with the Colts in 2014 and 2015 where he spent most of his time on the special teams.
