Federal funding is on the way to help Indiana communities recover from the severe weather that caused widespread damage early last year.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved more than $4 million in federal grant funding to support Indiana’s recovery from severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding in Spring 2025.

What The FEMA Funding Will Support

According to FEMA, the funding will help reimburse communities for emergency actions taken to protect life and property following the storms. This includes repairs to roads, restoration of critical infrastructure, and other recovery efforts already completed by state and local agencies.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun said the funding will make a significant difference for communities still rebuilding.

“Hoosiers were severely impacted by these devastating storms,” Braun said in a statement. “This funding will make a major difference by reimbursing communities for all the work they’ve done to repair roads, restore power services, and rebuild critical infrastructure.”

Where The Money Is Going

FEMA outlined several grants already approved for Indiana communities, including:

  • $435,000 for debris removal from roads and public properties in Bartholomew, Clark, Morgan, and Warrick counties
  • $444,000 for critical roadway repairs in Decatur, Warrick, and Vanderburgh counties
  • $133,000 for repairs to Owen Valley High School facilities damaged by the storms
  • $463,000 to restore essential power services for communities served by South Central Indiana Rural Electric Membership Corporation
  • $384,000 to the city of Anderson to repair destroyed power poles and lines and restore its power distribution system

FEMA is reimbursing these costs at no less than a 75 percent federal share through its Public Assistance Program, which helps state and local governments recover from major disasters.

Additional Federal Support Already Approved

The $4 million announced this week is part of a broader national recovery effort. FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security approved more than $2.2 billion in Public Assistance projects across the United States in the past week alone.

To date, FEMA has provided more than $12 million to Indiana for road repairs, debris removal, power restoration, and critical infrastructure repairs related to this disaster.
