An Exciting Development for Evansville

The Largest Concrete Skatepark in Indiana Will Soon be Downtown

Not only will Sunset Skatepark be a state-of-the-art concrete skatepark for bikers and skaters of all ages, and skill levels to enjoy, but it is also set to be the largest of its kind in the state of Indiana.   The skatepark is set to be built on the riverfront within Evansville's Promise Zone.  In a post from April of 2021, Sunset Skatepark announced that their downtown location will connect the current Micky's Kingdom Playground with the new EWSU Pump Station Project.  Sunset Skatepark will be free for all, so everyone interested in skating and biking can have access to a safe space to practice their favorite sport.

In a post to Facebook Sunset Skatepark said:

We did it!! So much to say, but here’s what I had to say today.
The idea for Sunset Skatepark started more than 15 years ago with a bunch of local skaters and bikers who wanted a concrete skatepark for our city. Many of these people have spent their own money and Saturdays repairing and patching the current park over the years. It’s been a long time coming, but in the last three years, we’ve made such great headway to ensure that the City of Evansville has a safe place for skaters and bikers to come and practice their sport. I believe there’s a reason that 2023 is the time that this park is built. 15 years ago, skateboarding and BMX weren’t the popular sports we see today. We see it now in our video games, in the fashion at the mall, and even the Olympics. It’s no longer just a sport for our local punks and subculture communities, but for everyone. It’s a community of people that span almost any age, skill level, and socioeconomic status. We want this park to be fun and accessible to everyone, but I’m most excited for those who have been waiting all this time to see Evansville not only build a quality concrete skate park, but we’re building the largest one in the state!
You can read the full post on Sunset Skatepark's Facebook page, here.   I'm so excited to see the completed skatepark in 2023! Be sure to follow along with Sunset Skatepark on Facebook to stay up to date on the skatepark's progress.
Congratulations to the hardworking team who worked tirelessly to make the dream of a concrete skatepark coming to Evansville a reality!
