The upcoming total solar eclipse that will take place over much of Indiana, including here in Evansville is bringing with it a number of challenges and even disruptions to local daily life.

Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience April 8, 2024 in Evansville

There is no doubt that the total solar eclipse taking place on Monday, April 8, 2024, is going to be a monumental, once-in-a-lifetime event. With nearly 80,000 people expected to travel into the Evansville region to experience it though, there are some potential logistics issues - mainly traffic.

Evansville Eclipse Business Closures

Several area businesses and organizations have already announced plans to close for the day due to the expected influx of people. Evansville Water and Sewer Utility announced last week that they would close the Sunset Pump Station to the public on April 8th. Likewise, the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library has announced their plans to also close all of the library branch locations on the day of the eclipse.

Delayed Trash and Recycling Services in Evansville on Eclipse Day

With the anticipation of excessive traffic, it comes as no surprise that trash and recycling services in the city of Evansville will not run on eclipse day. Republic Services, the company contracted with Evansville Water and Sewer Utility to provide trash services to utility customers within the city limits has announced that they will be operating on a one-day delay.

Delayed One Day for the Entire Week

Evansville Water and Sewer Utility shared a post on social media announcing the delay. The delay will not only impact residents who normally have their trash collected on Mondays but will also effect residents for the entire week. They say the trash will be delayed by one day and services will run Tuesday, April 9th through Saturday, April 13th.
