The flood water from the Ohio River and heaps of rain have caused many locals to seek somewhere to stay until the waters subside. The American Red Cross has opened up several shelters across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

From the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross opened two additional shelters overnight in Hopkinsville, Ky., and Ramsey, In., to serve those displaced by flooding and severe weather. There were 75 individuals across Kentucky and Southern Indiana who sought shelter Saturday night in 10 shelters across the state and in Southern Indiana.

Today the American Red Cross will send out four Emergency Response Vehicles to begin impact assessment and to provide snacks, water and tarps as residents prepare their homes for additional rain on Wednesday.

The Red Cross continues to encourage the community to download the free Red Cross Emergency App. The Emergency App features emergency weather alerts to help keep the user safe, and provides information about what to do during and after floods, as well as the locations of open shelters. Red Cross apps are available in smartphone app stores by searching for the American Red Cross or going to
