While it's hard to believe since we are in the throws of summer heat across the area, in a few short weeks the kids will be heading back to school.

Of course back to school means shopping for pencils, pens, crayons, markers, notebooks, and more school supplies. Unfortunately, for many families in Henderson County, Kentucky the extra money needed to buy those supplies just isn't there.

Fortunately, the Chloe Randolph Organization in Henderson is giving those of us with the means to afford supplies a chance to help those who don't.

4th Annual Chloe Randolph Organization Backpack and School Supply Drive

The non-profit is named after Henderson native, Chloe Randolph. A young woman, who in the prime of her life, was murdered by her then-husband, Mohamud Abdikadir, in their apartment in March 2019. He is now serving 20 years in prison for the crime. Determined not to let their daughter become another statistic, Chloe's parents founded the organization to provide victims of domestic violence in the Henderson area a place where they can get help to escape those abusive relationships.

The Chloe Randolph Organization has also proven itself to be a great community partner by branching outside its mission of helping victims of domestic abuse to help others in the area who are struggling for whatever reason. Its fourth annual backpack and school supply drive is just one of the ways they do that.

The drive is underway now and gives you the chance to drop off all the standard school supplies kids need to be successful in the classroom and a number of different locations around the Henderson area. Suggested donations outside the standard pencils, pens, and notebooks, include folders, glue sticks, packages of loose leaf paper, boxes of tissue, paper towels, and of course, backpacks. All donations can be dropped off at the Chloe Randolph Organization office at 327 Washington Street, or at any one of the following locations:

  • Midas - 2019 US Highway 41 North
  • Robert "Toddy" Todd State Farm Agency - 132 Second Street

Donations will be accepted until August 1st. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
