A team of injury lawyers has been on a mission, uncovering the vehicles that seem to have a knack for finding trouble. They combed through 5 years (2017 - 2021) of statistical data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to bring us the lowdown on which vehicles have been flirting with danger.

#4 & #5 Respectfully: Motorcycles and Semi's

Two-wheel motorcycles make a bold entrance at #4 on the list, racking up 9.22% of fatal crashes. Meanwhile, Truck-Tractors (semis) aren't far behind, contributing 8.07% to the grand crash party to take the #5 spot on the list.

#3 Compact SUVs

Don't let their compact size fool you. Compact Utility vehicles play a part in 13.49% of fatal crashes. These small-to-midsize vehicles are quite popular. SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson are some of the vehicles that fall into this category.

#2 Light Pickups

Light Pickups account for 14.69% of crashes, putting them in the #2 spot. These include trucks with a weight of up to 8,500 pounds, and a hauling capacity of up to 4,000 pounds like the Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, and GMC Canyon. There were 940 crashes in Indiana between 2017 and 2021.

#1 Four-Door Sedans

The vehicle type involved in the most accidents during the study period, accounting for 26.43% of fatal crashes is the four-door sedan. Vehicles ranging from the Toyota Prius to the Chevy Impala. According to the study, "By definition, a sedan is any closed-roof car with greater than or equal to 33 cubic feet of rear interior volume."
