We've teamed up with our rescue friends in Posey County, Indiana. Each week we share an adoptable dog from PC Pound Puppies and an adoptable feline friend from Posey Humane Society as well as details on how you can make them a forever part of your home. Let me introduce you to your next best friend.

Meet Bert

Bert is an older guy who is looking for someone that will let him live out his senior years with them. This poor guy has found himself at the shelter for a second time through no fault of his own and at 13 years old, he needs someone who is going to commit to being a forever home. At just 38 pounds, Bert doesn't take up much space and he has so much love to give. According to PC Pound Puppies,

This is the second time he has lost his human companion... Two years ago, his owner of 11 years couldn't take care of him any longer so we were able to rehome him... Please let this sweet boy know he's not disposable! He is house trained, doesn't need a kennel, does really well living with other dogs and cats with no issues.

He does fine with kids but is a little nervous around them so respectful older kids would be best. He is very gentle and sweet & loves attention. He is on pain meds due to arthritis and overweight which isn't helping. He is afraid of storms and fireworks. He has a lot of love to give.

Bert is a gentle, sweet, and loving boy who needs someone to show him that he isn't disposable. He is on pain medication for arthritis and the fact that he's a little overweight isn't helping. They say Bert is afraid of storms and fireworks, but don't let that deter you. This guy has so much love to give.

The PC Pound Puppies adoption fee is $150 which goes to cover a portion of the vetting costs. If you're interested in adding this pup to your family, you can fill out an adoption application here. The adoption process does require a completed application as well as an interview. The rescue will not schedule a meet and greet without having first received a completed application.

You can get in touch with PC Pound Puppies by email at pcpoundpuppies1@gmail.com or by phone at 812-483-4341. They do respond to inquiries and adoption applications at the earliest opportunity, but please remember to be be patient as they are volunteers who all work full-time jobs. They always do their best to return messages and schedule adoption interviews within a couple of days of receiving your application. Again, you can submit an application here.

Meet Pancake

This sweet little gal is Pancake. She is a domestic shorthair tabby who is waiting on someone like you to scoop her up and take her home. She would love a soft bed and a warm lap to cuddle in and something tells me she would be your new best friend.

Pancake is up to date on her vaccines, microchipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is a small investment to bring so much love into your life.

Posey Humane Society has plenty of other kitties as well as lots of dogs, both young and old.  If you're interested in meeting this week's adoptable cat or any of the other wonderful and deserving animals in the care of Posey Humane Society, you can visit them on Facebook or by visiting their official website, PoseyHumane.org. They are also in need of foster homes where the animals can wait for their forever families without having to stay inside the shelter.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
