WHAT BUGS STICK AROUND FOR COLDER TEMPS?
If you're anything like me you were always told when the first freeze comes it kills off all the bugs. My parents used to say that and I have just always assumed it was true. I am now learning there are bugs that stick around for the long haul and it doesn't matter how cold it is they will just make themselves comfortable inside your home UGH!
Most people know that if you see one ant there are hundreds more somewhere in and around your home. They can live inside the home during the winter months as long as they have a food source. Ultimately, if you take this away you can kill them.
They are beautiful and annoying! I swear when the temperature drop if there's a crack to be found in your home they are finding it and inviting themselves inside. They aren't harmful just a nuisance. Making sure to seal any cracks or holes in your home is the best way to keep them out.
I only learned of silverfish when I bought my first home. I was up in the attic and saw this super fast bug and thought "OH NO WE HAVE TERMITES". I did some research and found out it was a silverfish and they like to eat clothing and fabric. The female must be found and killed because she can lay thousands of eggs in the home. You can get rid of them with stick pads or calling Pest Control.
YUCK! Momma used to always say it takes an act of God to get rid of a cockroach and I'm pretty sure she was right. They are able to survive inside homes in the winter where they find warmth. They cannot survive in the cold. The best and most resourceful way to get rid of them is by calling on a professional.
Perhaps the most sneaky and creepy of them all. Spiders like warm and dark places and why wouldn't they? It just makes sense. EKK!!!! The best thing to do to keep spiders from infesting your home get rid of piles of clothing, junk, and stuff because they like to hide in them. You can also continue your pest control in the winter months as well. Stick pads are great in those places we've mentioned.
