I'm pretty excited for this show. It has been a few years since I have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd perform but they have a very special place in my heart. When I first started my career in radio, and I was just the part-time girl, the station I was with at the time was taking a bus load of listeners to see Skynyrd, They needed someone to basically run role-call every time we loaded and unloaded the charter bus.

So there I was, a twenty-something Kat Mykals, with a clipboard full of names, and a plus-one ticket. It seemed only fitting that I ask my dad to go with me, and I was so excited when he said yes. At the show there we were, shoulder to shoulder singing along to every song, and shouting "Free Bird" when the band asked that beloved question, "What song is it ya'll want to hear tonight?"

Fast forward a few years later and Lynyrd Skynyrd would be performing at Evansville's Roberts Stadium. That was the night that I took my daughter to see her very first concert. My buddy Sean had an extra meet and greet and he took her backstage to meet the band. That kid had the biggest smile on her 10-year old face and once again, I got to shout "Free Bird" along side one of the most important people in my life.

My dad has passed now, and that kid is almost 25, but those moments in time are engrained in my mind and my heart forever. I guess they are what some might call "core memories." That's the thing about live music though, isn't it?

I have lost track of the number of shows, festivals, and artists I've seen with my daughter since that night with Lynyrd Skynyrd but one thing is for sure, we will always have those memories and shared love of music.
