‘Westworld’ Season 2 Might Not Return to Finale Robot Uprising

Westworld Season 2 Premiere Scene Finale

Most stories were firmly in sync by the time Westworld closed out its first season, but Season 2 may already be playing with time. Don’t expect the 2018 premiere to open with the same chaotic shootout of the “Bicameral Mind” finale, as producers claim “We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”

You’re warned of full Westworld Season 1 spoilers from here on out, but Entertainment Weekly managed to wrestle a minor tidbit from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, with regard to the finale shaping Season 2’s premiere. Dolores shooting Robert Ford and scattering the panicked Delos board made a great image to close out the season, but the actual massacre may not be important enough to revisit:

But I’m not so sure we’re actually going to see the full slaughter — at least not right away. “You’re definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened,” Lisa Joy tells me, to which Jonathan Nolan adds: “We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”

It’s too early to presume that Season 2 might be kicking off a new round of temporal shenanigans, especially as any number of characters within, or outside the park could serve as our introduction to the season. Even then, only a few characters were left in immediate mortal peril at the shootout, between Tessa Thompson’s Charlotte, and Ed Harris’ William/Man in Black outside.

Elsewhere of Westworld Season 2, producers have kept the lion’s share of details under wraps, though the 2018 return is expected to answer practical questions about the park, potentially even a date for the show’s setting. Ed Harris will be back to play Season 2 on extreme mode (no guarantee for William or some of our missing players), while both Talulah Riley and Louis Herthum have been upped to series regulars. We’ll also finally get answers on the mysterious “SW” park.

In the meantime, stay tuned for further details on Westworld Season 2, arriving in 2018.
