It's obvious that Indiana isn't anything like Hollywood when it comes to movie making. Although fewer and fewer movies are being filmed in Hollywood (California in General) and New York, which has always been a hotbed of movie making.  Like gangs, you have the West Coast Coppola vs the East Coast Scorsese bunch.  It may however surprise you at the number of highly successful films were shot, at least in part, in Indiana.  Check out the Top 5 moneymakers shot in the Hoosier state.

"Pearl Harbor"

To start, Pearl Harbor had only a couple of scenes shot in the Gary, Indiana area, but I'll let it qualify for the list. The film was released on May 25, 2001 Grossed $449.2 million

"Transformers 'Dark Of The Moon"

This sequel was released in 2011 and scored big at the box office. It grossed $352 million in the U.S. and $1.12 billion worldwide. Some scenes were filmed in Gary, Ind.

"A Nightmare On Elm Street" (Remake)

Since I felt a bit like having Pearl Harbor on the list was a cheat, since so few scenes were shot in Indiana, I think I should add one more to make up for it. "Nightmare On Elm Street". This not very good 2010 remake was released April 30, 2010 Grossed $115.6 million Scenes as scenes were shot in Gary, Indiana

"A League Of Their Own"

Released on July 1,1992 This story of women's professional baseball grossed $107 million in the United States (and an additional $25 million worldwide)  Scenes filmed in Evansville and Huntingburg

"Hoosiers"

Released November 14, 1988 this classic film was critically and commercially successful raking in $28.6 million. Most scenes were shot in a number of small towns in Central and Northern Indiana

"Breaking Away"

Released July 13, 1979, this 'Little 500' biking movie Took in nearly $20 million Nearly all of the movie was shot in or around Bloomington,IN

Honorable mention goes to "8 Men Out"

This story of the Chicago Black Sox Scandal came out on Sept.1, 1988.
While critically acclaimed, it was not a huge box office hit as it raked in only $5.7 million Most of the move shot in Indianapolis at the old Busch Stadium

There are plenty more films shot in part in Indiana, too many to list in fact. Here's a good source for that info.
